I love the forties! Casablanca is one of my all time favorite films and I love that the writers (and actors) weren’t sure how the story would end – right up until they shot the final scene.
Did you know that Vivien Leigh from Gone with the Wind used her Oscar as a bathroom doorstop? Or that Jean Harlow always wore a lucky chain around her ankle? If you look closely in her films, you can see it. Another fun fact is that Betty Grable was actually pregnant in that famous pin-up pose of hers that adorned WWII barracks (that’s why they shot her from the back, looking over her shoulder). I put together a quiz using Riddle.com to share some fun facts about this period I love, inspired by my ’40s set historical fiction, RETURN TO ME.
Click here to take the quiz and let me know who you got! (I got Ingrid Bergman). Share on Facebook and Twitter !
My favorites are Ingrid Bergman, Gene Tierney, Greer Garson, Mary Astor, Lana Turner, Maureen OHara, Lauren Bacall, Ida Lupino, Valle, (check out the Paradine Case and the Third Man…she is gorgeous) Virginia Mayo (WOW, great legs), Vivian Leigh, Garbo, Myrna Loy, and last but not least, Norma Sheerer…..those women had character and class…I loved their hair styles and the way they dressed…they had so much more substance than today’s female actresses…I mean, I love Jennifer Hudson, but come-on…she could not even touch any of these women mentioned….I think the best modern day actress is by far, Meryl Streep. Of course, I am 68, so I have a much different perspective than the younger generation!
