“It appears that way.” James grinned, his eyes the color of the mansion’s slate roof, worn smooth from nature’s elements. She could swim in those eyes.
“Well…” Sadie boldly stepped away from Henry’s hold. “For what it’s worth, I can’t thank you enough, mister…” She extended her hand to carry out the pretend greeting, as if she didn’t already know the last name that had played on her lips, testing it out with her own.
“Pasko.” He pressed her hand to his warm mouth, blurring the space around them. “At your service.”
